What 'The Regime Files' is - and Why It Exists

This is a newsletter about Trumpism, modern authoritarianism, tech bro power grabs, and the weird political chaos brewing beneath the headlines.

I’m no journalist or expert. I’m just someone watching, researching, and trying to connect the dots, trying to understand what’s really going on, and why everything feels so off lately.

I write explainers, breakdowns, and analysis on topics like:

  • Project 2025
  • The growing power of tech elites
  • Authoritarian shifts in the U.S. and abroad
  • ...and more.

Think of this space as part notebook, part decoder ring, and part alarm bell.

Who’s Behind This

I’m Nikos — a tech nerd, political observer, and someone who grew up watching democratic systems erode in real time.

I’m based in Greece but operate globally, and this newsletter started because I couldn’t sit quietly while the U.S. — a linchpin of the global system — started showing cracks that looked awfully familiar.

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I’m just paying attention, researching everything I can, and trying to make sense of it all — publicly.

How I Write & What to Expect

I mix informality with analysis — like a conversation over coffee where one person pulled a dozen research papers beforehand (which is something i may or may not have done IRL in the past). You’ll find explanations, opinions, references, occasional swearing, near-zero clickbait, and thorough sourcing.

I welcome disagreement, corrections, and new info. If I mess up, I’ll add an edit note at the bottom of the piece with a timestamp.

I try to remain intellectually honest and open-minded. That said, I’m skeptical of unchecked power, anti-democratic movements, and anyone who tries to run a country like a company.

As of starting this newsletter, I aim to post once or twice a month. Maybe more if shit hits the fan. Long-term goal is to post weekly.

What to Read First

Important articles will be linked here once they've been publicized.

Books, Videos & Podcasts That Messed With My Head

Here’s a mix of books, newsletters, videos, and podcasts I’ve consumed, maybe enjoyed, and that likely shaped (or challenged) my thinking along the way.
(No affiliate links, I’m not here to sell you anything.)

  • (Book) The Tech Coup - M. Schaake
The subtitle says it all: How to save Democracy from Silicon Valley. Written by a Dutch politician and former member of the EU Parliament, this one goes hard on the warning bells — and it’s coming from someone who’s seen the system from the inside.
  • (Free E-Book) The Network State - S. Balaji
A potentially uncomfortable, but very important read. This is basically the tech bro manifesto — a mix of libertarian futurism, decentralized governance, and digital nation-building. You’ll see shades of this mindset everywhere once you’ve read it.

How to Reach Me

I don’t do comments, I don't have the time to moderate them, but I do read emails! If you’ve got questions, feedback, or want to point me to something important, reach out! [email protected]

Disclaimer:

This is not journalism. It’s personal commentary based on research. Always think critically, do your own digging, and don’t believe anything just because I (or anyone else) said it.
